District of Columbia and Security: A Glimpse at Both
The District of Columbia lies on the same area as Washington D.C., the capital city of the United States. The District of Columbia is found along the banks of the Potomac River. The District of Columbia got its name from Christopher Columbus, the famous explorer of the country.
The District of Columbia has a lot of national landmarks. An example would be the National Mall found at the center of the district that showcases a lot of monuments to the leaders of America. Points of Interest would be the Lincoln Memorial, Albert Einstein Memorial, etc.
You will also find the Tidal Basin in the District of Columbia where the cherry blossom trees of Japan are seen and are symbols of friendship between the US and Japan after World War II. The District of Columbia is also a good center for the arts. You will find the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the district which serves as home to the Washington Ballet, National Symphony Orchestra, and the Washington National Opera. You will also enjoy going to the Shakespeare Theatre Company to discover what a genius Shakespeare is. Surely the District of Columbia is home to the dancers, the artists, the performers, etc.
You should know however that the District of Columbia is also home to theft, with theft from auto having the highest number of incidents. In fact, April 2008 Crime statistics show that theft from a vehicle totals to 2,702 for the whole month. If you are in the District of Columbia, you have to be careful at all times and look for ways on how to decrease your chances of becoming a victim of theft from your own vehicle. Read these tips and apply them:
A good way of preventing theft from your vehicle is to keep your valuables kept out of sight. Do not leave your mobile phone, PDA, etc. inside your car. It is best to take them with you wherever you go. You may leave them in a locked glove compartment or in the truck of your car if you need to.
Be very conscious especially when the holiday season sets in; whenever you go shopping, it is best to store your packages in the trunk and not leave them on passenger seats or even on the car floors. If you can are able to remove your sound system from your vehicle and bring it with you, you may do so. Most importantly, do not forget to lock your car doors and your car windows all the time.
