The State of Florida and its Crime Issues
Florida is the US State seen in the southeastern region with most cities in the state having a subtropical climate that’s humid. Southern parts of Florida on the other hand have tropical climate. Florida is on the 4th spot (top) in terms of population in the United States.
Florida is also home to different kinds of wildlife such as the Pilot Whale, Indigo Snake, Pygmy Rattlesnake, Panther, Bobcat, Armadillo, Crested Caracara, Bald Eagle, Florida Scrub Jay, and a lot more. Also be reminded that Florida is the so called winter home of most bird species from the eastern part of North America.
The said state also has a number of environmental issues, with Red tide being a great issue specifically on the Southwest coast of the state of Florida. Aside from environmental issues, the crime rate in Florida has always been an ongoing problem. In the year 2006, Florida Crime Statistics showed that property crimes such as burglary and theft have been the most frequent crimes committed in Florida. 721,084 property crimes have been committed in 2006, with theft being in the 1st spot with 473,774 occurrences and burglary being in 2nd place with a reported 170,873 incidents.
How do you protect yourself from burglary and theft in Florida? Use the following guidelines for you and your family’s utmost security:
To protect your home from burglary, use high quality locks as well as solid doors to make it hard for the burglar to enter your home. These may be expensive but at least you get more protection. You should also not forget to lock your doors and take the house keys with you even if you’ll only be out of the house for a few minutes. As for your valuables, avoid placing them in plain view from the window especially those that can be grabbed or carried easily. Do not forget to secure your garage door especially when you are on vacation to another place as an empty garage will tell thieves that no one is home and they would be able to rob your house easily.
To protect yourself from being mugged/robbed while out, avoid walking alone especially during night time. It is best to always have someone to accompany you while walking off to some place. Avoid walking or running alone at night. Instead go walking or jogging with a friend. Always remember to walk in areas that are well-lit. If a car stops to ask you for directions, answer them from afar. Never go near the vehicle answer questions. You never know, you might be pulled into the car and robbed, raped, or even kidnapped. Also, when withdrawing from the ATM machine, be extra careful and alert and never display your cash and count them in public view.
