Illinois
Where can you find the largest Public Library in the world? Where can you find the only Post Office in the world you can drive your car through? Only in Chicago, and as most of you might know, Chicago is in the State of Illinois. The State of Illinois’ motto is, “State Sovereignty, National Union.” Appropriately, Illinois is said to be an essential transportation hub because the Port of Chicago which bridges the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River via the Illinois River can be found there. On lighter matters, did you know that the ice cream name “sundae” originated in Illinois specifically in Evanston. The story was that the piety of the town hated the influences of the soda fountain on Sunday, thus, the good town fathers came up with an ordinance banning the retailing of ice cream sodas during Sunday. In obedience with the law, ice cream was sold with syrup but without soda. They called it the “Sunday”. However, since the religious objected in naming a dish after a Sabbath, the name Sunday was changed to Sundae. Interesting right? But it isn’t sugar and spice and everything nice in Illinois. Illinois has to face an average of around 50 days of thunderstorm activity each year. This is more than average compared to other states. Plus, Illinois is also susceptible to tornadoes averaging around 35 every year.
As if these are not enough, Illinois, just like any other place also has to face the challenge of keeping crime rates as low as possible. In the latest Disaster Center report, Illinois’ total Crime Index rate is 4,286.2 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This thus earned the state its rank of having the 20th highest total Crime Index amongst all the states. For crimes against Property, the state’s recorded incident rate is 3,629.4 for every 100,000 people. With regard to Robbery, Illinois has a rate of 207.4 for every 100,000 people, its rank is quite alarming because it’s ranked 4th highest compared to all the other states. Vehicle Theft, on the other hand, happened 452.1 times for each 100,000 people, thus making Illinois as the 12th highest for vehicle theft. The most stolen vehicles in Illinois are: 1991 Toyota Camry, 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass, 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, 1992 Chevrolet Van, 1989 Chevrolet Caprice, 1993 Ford Taurus, 1990 Buick LeSabre, 1994 Dodge Caravan, 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, and 2000 Dodge Intrepid.
The reality is, one isn’t perfectly safe from the negative elements of society. Before it’s too late, you must do everything you can to avoid becoming a victim. That’s why having a competent car alarm and security system may be one of the most valuable investments you’ll make. Don’t just be safe, be ready.
