The state of Massachusetts is one of the six US states situated at the New England area of the United States of America. The state’s name could be further separated in to three which are mass, adchu and et respectively. Mass means great, adchu means hill and et is used as a locative word. From these three words, the meaning of the state was derived which is mainly ‘near the great hill’.
The state of Massachusetts ranks 3rd highest in population among the 50 states with an estimated number of 6.4 million. Just like the other states of US, most of the population of Massachusetts resides in the metropolitan areas. In the case of Massachusetts, most of its people could be seen in the Boston metropolitan area. Almost half of the population could be seen in this part.
Massachusetts economy revolves mainly in education, health and technology. It was also once dependent on agriculture and trading. And just for added information, Massachusetts is a complete commonwealth today.
The state of Massachusetts, just like the others, is not a perfect state. Meaning, the state also experiences problems at times. And probably one of the problems that linger on the state is the problem with crimes. With a population of 6,349,097 in the year 2000, it has reached an estimate of 3, 026.1 reported crimes per hundred thousand people in that same year. This made the state the 42nd highest in total reported crimes among the states of US.
In particular, the violent crimes reached 476.1, crimes against reached property 2, 550, murders reached 2, forced rapes reached 26.7, robbery reached 91.6, and vehicle thefts reached 407.6 for every hundred thousand residents of Massachusetts. From the year 2000 to 2006, the number of violent crimes decreased by 1, 455, crimes against properties decreased by 7, 988, murders increased by 61, forced rapes increased by 46, robberies increased by 2, 232, burglaries increased by 4, 851 and aggravated assaults decreased by 3, 794.
Although it could be seen that the number of crimes in the state of Massachusetts has decreased since the year 2000, this is not a reason for the state to be calm. Alarms and sensors on every home are still encouraged to avoid any burglars and thefts in the place. Outside lights are also advised by the security system of Massachusetts so that burglars wouldn’t have much courage to break in the homes.
