Michigan Home Security
Michigan, the state of US located at the Midwestern part, was named after the Lake Michigan which flows through the place. Michigan was derived from the term mishigami which means water or large lake. This US state is made up of two large peninsulas, the Lower and the Upper Peninsula respectively. These two parts are separated by the Straits of Mackinac. The two peninsulas of Michigan are equally important for the state. Moreover, the population of Michigan has been growing rapidly. Most of its population resides in the metro areas, particularly the Metro Detroit where almost 50% of the people stay.
The 20th century had been a great bang for the state of Michigan. It is because in this year, the automotive industry, which was started by Henry Ford, became the major industry of the state. Grand Rapids, Michigan’s second largest city became the center of automotive production in Michigan. At present, Michigan stands as the largest auto producing state in the whole of US.
Amidst the success of Michigan when it comes to the automotive industry, it still experiences some problems. And one of these problems is the crime rate in the state. As a matter of fact, in the year 2000, Michigan has reached a number of 4,109.9 reported crimes per hundred thousand people putting the state at the 24th highest rank among the states of US.
In addition, in that same year, 2000, Michigan has a crime reported breakdown of 555 for violent crimes, 3 554.9 for crimes against properties, 6.7 for murders, 138 for robbery, 560.7 for vehicle thefts. The crimes’ ranks among the states of US, on the hand, are 11th highest for violent crimes, 28th highest for the crimes against properties, 4th highest for forced rapes, 17th highest for robbery and 4th highest for vehicle thefts for every hundred thousand people in the state of Michigan.
In lieu of the crime rate in Michigan and the fast growing population, experts are trying to find out the ways and means to lower the crime rate of the state. At present, the security system of Michigan had come up with measures that would keep the homes of people, as well as their property safe. Setting up bolts and locks in the homes are some of the safety measures that the government is encouraging to the people of Michigan to avoid thieves and other unwanted visitors in the house. Alarms and sensors are also part of the security measures that would help keep the police on track in case crimes happen.
