The state of Montana is located at the Great Plains area of US. Its nicknames are treasure state, Land of the Shining Mountains, Big Sky Country and the Last Best Place. Montana’s major industries include agriculture, lumber, as well as mining of minerals such as copper, gold, lead, as well as manganese, silver and zinc. On the other hand, its tourist attractions include the Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, as well as the Grant-Kohr’s Ranch National historic Sites. Montana is also known for fishing, skiing and ranching.
Although Montana has the second largest land area among the states of US, it has the third lowest population rate and density, 44th to be exact. In the year 2006, its population only reached 997, 670 as opposed to its land area of about 147,165 square miles. One of the reasons might be because it is considered as one of the most secluded areas in the United States, probably because of the numerous mountain ranges along side it.
However, although Montana is said to be secluded and has a low population density, still, crime is a problem in the state. In particular, crimes against properties have been fluctuating every now and then in the place, alarming the residents and the government as well. In fact, amidst its small population, it was ranked 31st highest among the states of US in terms of crime index in the year 2000, which is about 3,533.4 reported crimes for every hundred thousand people. Violent crimes, particularly, was ranked 30th highest, murder 43rd highest, robbery 44th highest, burglaries 45th highest and vehicle theft 41st highest among the US states per hundred thousand residents of Montana. Also, the state of Montana had 33.4 reported forced rapes, 177.9 reported aggravated assaults, 2,638.6 reported larceny thefts and 3, 292.7 reported crimes against property for every one hundred thousand people.
And because of these statistics about the crime rate in the state of Montana, the security services of the state had encouraged each of its people to secure their homes and properties such as cars and personal things well. Montana’s government had also implemented some services that would help its people in preventing and fighting the crime on their state such as the addition of alarms, sensors, bolted wires, as well as outside lights in every homes. This is highly encouraged to lessen the number of crimes occurring on the state.
