Home Security Systems Tennessee
Before it was recognized as Tennessee, the land areas were first occupied 11,000 years ago by Paleo-Indians. Before them, the very first inhabitants were unknown but archaeologists have discovered evidences from the lineage of Muscogee people, who settled at the Tennessee River Valley, such as the Archaic, Woodland and the Mississippian people. In the year 1796, Tennessee was on the 16th place to be officially proclaimed as one of the states of United States of America. The name Tennessee evolved from one name to another. First it was “Tanasqui”, a Native American village that had been passed by a Spanish explorer and his men. Next, it was Tanasi or “Tanase”, a town of Cherokee encountered by European settlers.
Actually there are still lots of variations when it comes to the origin of its name but the modern name has been accredited to James Glen, South Carolina’s governor. He used this spelling to correspond officially in 1750s. When 1796 came in and a constitutional convention was held, they have decided to make the Southwest Territory be organized as a new state and they adopted the name “Tennessee”. It had a total land area of 42,169 sq. mi. with Nashville as its capital and Memphis as its largest city. Tennessee have been very well-known as of today as the “Volunteer State” since the 1812 War broke out. It was because of an outstanding participation of the volunteer soldiers from Tennessee.
But despite of that popular nickname, the state Tennessee has been exposed to a variety of crimes. In the year 2000, it was on the 10th place having the highest Crime Index Rate of 4,890 incidents per 100,000 people. When 2006 came in, its population increased from 5,689,283 in 2005 to 6,038,803. The decrease in the Crime Index Rate was only minimal in 2006 having 4,888 incidents per 100,000 people. Violent crime rate is 760 incidents per 100,000 people, which is composed of 7 Murder rate incidents per 100,000 people, Forced Rape rate of 36 incidents per 100,000 people, Robbery of 184 incidents per 100,000 people and 534 Aggravated Assault incidents per 100,000 people. When it comes to Property crime rate, it has a total of 4,128 incidents per 100,000 people, composing of 1,041 Burglary incidents per 100,000 people, 2,714 Larceny theft incidents per 100,000 people and 374 Vehicle theft incidents per 100,000 people. Tennessee residents should be able to know and take the proper measures to decrease the number of crime rates.
