| Living out in the country can be great. Growing up, I would babysit for a family that had a log home in the country. It was a great house and the privacy was wonderful. No cars flying by on the road, no neighbors having parties or playing loud music. Their driveway was close to a mile long. It wound through the forest before it came up to the house and garage. When you live that far away from town, from the ability to get cable TV, from neighbors, and even from the road, it is difficult to know what is going on around you.
Home Security System – Driveway entry alert
That is why they installed a driveway entry alert. If a vehicle enters their property, a small alarm would sound on the detector. It was helpful for me to know when they were arriving home to clean up the dishes from dinner quick! It also gave me piece of mind to know if someone was out there in that vast nothingness of trees. During hunting season, there are people who feel they don’t need to follow the rules who like to trespass on other people’s property. This can be dangerous if you don’t know there are people outside your door armed with guns. Pets and people are not safe if there is a dangerous hunter around.
The driveway alert system also let me know if someone was entering the property when I was alone. If someone had learned that the parents were going out or leaving for the weekend, they may want to try to take advantage of the situation. Being alone is scary as a youth. Having that home security system sensor helped me to feel safer. Yes, there were other sensors around the house: motion detectors attached to lights. But with the wildlife around, they were always going off without warning. It was funny to see deer fleeing from the startling light, but it was also annoying that the lights would go off all hours of the night for some animal or another. That’s why after about two years of living there, they disconnected the sensors. A security device is only effective if it causes you to be alert. If you no longer trust the sensor, then there is no point in having it.
Home Security System – Driveway sensors
Driveway sensors come in two versions: home security system hardwired or home security system wireless. They work by burying a sensor along the width of the driveway. When a vehicle drives across the probe, it interrupts a circuit and alerts the alarm. Small bikes or people are not strong enough to set off the home security system so there is very little chance of a false alarm.
While I miss being out at that house in the woods, I am so thankful that I was always able to feel safe thanks to those sensors.
